e.motion21 has a logo with a meaning?

The performance of e.motion21 at yesterday’s Disability Care opening in Geelong was amazing.

e.motion21 is a not-for-profit, volunteer driven organisation who believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in life, no matter what.

Their mission

  • To provide innovative dance and fitness programs to children and young adults with Down syndrome in a supportive and social environment.
  • To engage with society and to have vibrant, sustainable dance school locations operating in the communities that need them.

After the proceedings at yesterday’s DisabilityCare Opening, a good friend of mine whispered in my ear “Did you notice who is missing in the line up of the six speeches?”

Thought to myself,….. No…. Answer …………….A person with a disability

After that I left the event thinking, if DisabilityCare is really going to work and see value in people with disabilities it is imperative we have people like the ones behind e.motion21

Right on John! Good observation by your friend. Unless we get familiar with engaging with and listening to citizens with disabilities the norm of able bodied perfect speakers will be the dominant paradigm. It was also patronising not to ask them to speak. The TV news coverage did however interview people with disabilities.
