After conducting focus groups with prisoners who have an intellectual disability (ID) at Port Phillip Prison in Victoria I came away with a greater appreciation of the challenges that people with an ID have when accessing and interacting with Justice system.
One of the recommendations I included in my report after running these focus groups was that more consultation is needed.
You can imagine how pleased I was when hearing that the Victorian Law Reform Committee are currently calling for written submissions from interested people on the topic
Inquiry into access to and interaction with the Justice System by people with an intellectual disability, their families and carers
