I describe Lesley as a quiet achiever because many people knew of the work she achieved but not necessarily had met her…. You will be missed…..Lesley
The following dedication is from John Della Bosca
Lesley Hall, a champion among champions of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, passed away over the weekend.
You may not have known Lesley personally, but I know many of you connected with disability valued and respected her unwavering passion for and commitment to improving the rights of people with disability both in Australia and overseas.
Lesley’s values and commitment to social justice was legendary. Lesley led the Australian Federation of Disability Organisations during the formation of the National Disability and Carers Alliance, which auspiced the Every Australian Counts campaign.
One of Lesley’s greatest gifts was her ability to build bridges and move groups with different views and experiences towards consensus. One of the results of this is the NDIS – now in its early stages of launch sites, but with much left to do to ensure the scheme rolls out and reaches all Australians who need it.
Lesley will be sorely missed but she would urge us all to keep working towards our common goal – ensuring people with disability, their families and carers can participate in the social, civic and economic life of our country.
Lesley, you will be in our memories and in our hearts always. Thank you.
